In Swahili, Nyota means star. This is an apt name for this dazzling and shimmering textile inspired by thousands of stars in the sky. A myriad of micro motifs, circular, triangular and crescent shapes capture the sparkling reflection of the moon and stars on the sandy shores of Zanzibar’s coastline. Nyota’s luxurious velvet has both printed and foil stamped motifs laid out across the fabric in undulating bands of rhythmical stripes, subtly transitioning back and forth from light to dark, and warm sandy shades intermingling with soft, charcoal hues. The effect is both poignantly beautiful and unabashedly glamorous.
